The scene: Gay Starbucks on Santa Monica Boulevard, West Hollywood, California; a gaggle of gay men dot the sidewalk under branded green umbrellas. We sit comfortably with each other, and the buzz of small talk — about life and relationships mixes in with the scent of triple, vanilla, nonfat, extra hot lattes. The eye candy is tasty, and the temperature outside is a cool 80 degrees, perfect. It’s an ideal moment — fellowship, friends, and a dose of reality.

“I don’t know why I always attract needy people,” says Phillip, a 39-something, successful event producer, who, like many of us, experiences situations that don’t feel good or aren’t exactly what we want to experience. First, we must understand a basic law of metaphysics — nothing comes into our lives uninvited. So, we have to look at both sides of the manifestation coin; first, if we’re attracting situations that aren’t working for us or attitudes and situations that aren’t life-affirming, then it would be important for us to examine what’s in our lives, how it got there, and when the invites went out…
